You'll find some of the most spectacular scenic areas here. Some folks call some of our hills "mountains," even though they are just really great hills--steep and tall. Most of our hills are covered up with beautiful hardwood trees that rival the mountains to the east for color in the fall.
Springs, Bluffs, and Waterfalls
Along the rivers limestone bluffs rise up from the water to tower above
the streams as natural springs dribble down into the pools below. It's
a haven for wildlife. Deep hollows lead small spring-fed creeks
through gravel beds to the rivers below splashing over waterfalls along
the way. After warm rains fog rises in the hollows and define the
deeply divided terrain. In summer evenings, the air cools and drifts
back down through the valleys giving some welcome relief to the heat.
Plants and animals in the healthy ecosystems thrive in the humidity.
A few places are known for their beauty, and they are accessible to the public.
Bakers Bluff
This most scenic view along the Natchez Trace, overlooks the Duck River valley and its fertile farmland.
